According to a recent report from The Elkhart Truth, the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds broke ground Friday on a campus expansion expected to strengthen agricultural and 4-H programming while creating new opportunities for community events and regional tourism.
“This expansion will create new opportunities to support 4-H and agriculture while welcoming more events to the fairgrounds,” said Shelly Steury, general manager of the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds. “We are excited to grow the ways we can serve our community throughout the year.”
The project includes the Forest River Inc. & Peter J. Liegl Ag & Community Expo, a new 47,500-square-foot multipurpose facility being constructed by DJ Construction. The facility will house the swine club during the fair and provide year-round space for trade shows, agricultural events, conferences and community gatherings.
“DJ Construction is honored to be part of the continued growth of the Elkhart County Fairgrounds,” said DJ Construction Vice President Matt Schrock. “Community is everything in Elkhart County and it’s hard to imagine a place that has done more to bring community together than our fairgrounds. We count it a great privilege to play a part in helping that continue for future generations of friends, families, and neighbors.”
Nuway Construction will build the new Health & Wellness Center, providing a more accessible and functional home for Fire and EMS operations during the Fair. The facility will also include an accessible adult restroom, campground laundry facilities, and flexible programming space. Additional campus improvements include full-hookup campsites, livestock barn improvements, and infrastructure upgrades.
