Antlered Invaders Breach Dometic
Police fired two shots at the Dometic facility on Industrial Parkway in Elkhart, Ind., when a couple of deer broke in through a glass window about 7 p.m. Tuesday.
One deer had escaped when four officers from the Elkhart City Police Department arrived.
This story Rasmus S. Jorgensen originally appeared in The Elkhart Truth.
The one still inside the offices was very disoriented, according to Sergeant Travis Snider, who said the officers made the decision to shoot the animal, as it was bleeding badly and had substantial injuries.
An officer shot two buckshot rounds; the second to ensure that the deer was dead. Police said that since the incident was after normal business hours, the number of people in the offices was limited, making it easier to safely take down the deer. Snider said that the officer fired buckshots, as they do not have penetration or maintain the velocity of a rifle shot, which would have been unnecessary and less safe.
