During its Feb. 26 meeting, the Albion Town Council heard that the Albion manufacturer will be adding a powder coating process to its operation, according to Town Manager Stefen Wynn. The addition will create some extra work for the town’s sewage treatment plant.
As part of the process, Dexter Axle will be discharging waste which will require additional testing for heavy metals of the water the town releases from its sewage treatment ponds.
Handling that extra material also will require the town to modify its discharge permit from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
Dexter Axle said it would be ready to begin its powder coating of materials as of April 1. The town won’t have its permit changed by that date, but Wynn said the company would be able to hold onto this part of its normal industrial discharge and transport it elsewhere for treatment.
Representatives from Dexter Axle are expected to appear before the Albion Town Council at its March 12 meeting.
