California Man Teaches RV Repair for Free
Dayne King of Nevada County, Calif., will tell RVers how to repair their RVs or trailers for free.
This business strategy has earned King such a large and loyal customer base that he gave up his day job with a local RV dealership.
This story by Tom Durkin originally appeared in The Union.
“I’d been working nights and weekends for several years,” King said. On Feb. 25, “after much consideration, I concluded I could work for myself full-time and do just fine.”
Two months later, “I’m doing just fine,” he grinned. “I was busy from day one.”
By giving free advice by phone and performing professional work on service calls, King already had a solid reputation through word-of-mouth and Facebook.
Ask the 23,000-plus members of the Facebook group Nevada County Peeps for advice on RV repairs, and King’s name invariably comes up.
“I found him on Peeps,” said Andrew Twidwell, president of ABT Plumbing of Grass Valley. “I had him work on our travel trailer. He did a great job and came in on budget.”
