NFIB Webinar to Cover New Overtime Rule
After four years of proposed regulations and final rules, including a lawsuit and several court rulings, the U.S. Department of Labor has issued a new federal overtime rule that is set to take effect Jan. 1.
A webinar examining the rule will take place at noon Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Under the new rule, employees who make less than $35,568 will be eligible for overtime pay. The rule applies to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s white collar “executive, administrative and professional” (EAP) exemptions. The EAP exemptions determine which employees are exempt from overtime-pay requirements under federal law when they work more than 40 hours in a week.
In this webinar, Tammy D. McCutchen, an authority on federal and state wage and hour laws and former Wage and Hour Administrator at the Department of Labor, will explain the new requirements and what employers need to do to ensure compliance on Jan. 1.
During this webinar, attendees will learn:
- Proper classification of employees as exempt or non-exempt under new rule
- Importance of a job description in the implementation of new rule
- Proper implementation of FLSA rules
- Proper payment of exempt and non-exempt under FLSA rules
