Black Book recently released a report for December, showing that the average selling price for motorized units was $42,633, which is down $2,751 (6.1 percent) from the previous month. Towables came in at $15,253, up $1,132 (7.9 percent) from last month. One year ago, the average motorhome sold for $43,435 and the average towable unit brought $12,872.
“It’s always nice when all segments of the RV industry move in the same direction, but this month featured motorized units falling for the fourth consecutive month, while towables rebounded a bit,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst of Black Book’s specialty markets. “With the prime spring selling season right around the corner, some dealers may be getting a jump on stocking up their higher volume units for when their first customers begin to arrive in their showrooms.”
Auction volume was also mixed. Motorhomes increased 5.8 percent while towables declined 7.3 percent.
The average age of motorized units was seven years old (2013), and towables were a bit older at eight (2012).
For motorhomes (including Class A, B, and C):
