Ivy Tech Breaking Ground on New Manufacturing Training Facility

Ivy Tech Community College South Bend-Elkhart, Ind. will officially break ground next week on its new high-tech manufacturing training facility at its Elkhart County location.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the iFLEX Lab takes place 10 a.m. Wednesday. The 10,000-square-foot facility will be built on the east side of campus, adjacent to Mervin and Dorothy Lung Hall at 22531 County Road 18 in Goshen.

The iFLEX Lab will provide workforce training in advanced manufacturing, creating more opportunities for Ivy Tech to support residents of the local community in earning degrees or certificates in pathways including automation, robotics and internet-based manufacturing.

“This goal is to drive economic development and to transform today’s workforce while providing the foundation for the needs of tomorrow’s workers,” Ivy Tech South Bend-Elkhart Chancellor David Balkin said in a news release.

Ivy Tech’s goal is to make the iFlex Lab the most comprehensive and robust advanced manufacturing and automation training facility in Indiana, according to a news release. This will be done by securing the best training equipment and tools, working with Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) for the delivery of internationally recognized credentials, and partnering with educational institutions, community organizations and businesses to develop a curriculum that will be used to support K-14 students, non-traditional students and employees in related industries.
