With spring approaching, wholesale RV values are mixed, according to Eric Lawrence at Black Book. Expect 2023 to be a very different year from the last one.
“The RVIA is projecting new RV shipments to come in at around 335,000 units for 2023, a 32% decline from 2022,” Lawrence wrote in this month’s report. “They explain that this decrease is to better align dealers’ inventory with the forecast consumer demand. With new RV lots seemingly fully stocked, we expect fewer ‘new RV’ buyers to be shopping for used RVs and for values to return to more normal seasonal patterns as the year progresses.
“Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorized units was $67,539, down $5,902 – 8.1% – from the previous month. Towables came in at $19,541, up $359 – 1.8% – from last month.
“One year ago, the average motorhome sold for $68,842 and the average towable unit brought $21,865.”
The report also states that auction volume was up: motorhomes increased 12.3% while towables rose 6.2%, and the average age of motor homes was 11 years old (2012) and towables was six (2017).
