OHI’s New Mission Statement Reaffirms Core Members
After hearing from members that there was concern OHI (Outdoor Hospitality Industry) was moving away from its core constituency – RV parks and campgrounds – the OHI board of directors wanted to clarify that is not the case and did so by amending the OHI mission statement to include specific mention of this most important segment of its membership.
The proposed updated mission statement reads: To empower RV parks, campgrounds and glamping businesses with the community, resources, professional development and legislative advocacy needed to ensure successful futures for all outdoor hospitality industry businesses.
OHI’s 2024-2026 strategic plan was approved at an OHI board meeting earlier this week with an amendment to the mission statement to align the document with the organization’s Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws by explicitly mentioning the organization’s legally declared core membership: RV parks and campgrounds.
“Our vision of the future first and foremost includes our storied history,” says Joe Moore, chair of the OHI Board of Directors and owner of Moore’s Campground Consulting. “The legacy of RV parks and campgrounds and their existing and continued impact on the industry is what has made outdoor hospitality so successful thus far, and why we see the future as so bright with the inclusion of all types of outdoor hospitality businesses.”
This updated mission statement will be voted on for final approval at OHI’s spring board meeting.
“RV parks and campgrounds” are explicitly mentioned as the organization’s core membership in its guiding legal documents – the Articles of Incorporation – established in 1965,” says Paul Bambei, president and CEO of OHI. “A lot has changed in 60 years, but one thing that hasn’t is the core membership we serve. It’s simply expanded. In a rapidly changing environment, we know it is important that the outdoor hospitality industry has a national organization positioned to represent it well into the future. We exist to serve our members and ensuring our core membership feels seen within that mission and vision is essential to us.”
“OHI is guided by its mission, vision and core values established in its strategic plan, but that dedication to the industry goes beyond the words on a webpage,” OHI said.
“It is a promise to advance the industry every day in OHI’s service of members. The organization’s dedication to the success of all RV parks, campgrounds and glamping businesses remains OHI’s core purpose and is proved in every professional development program, each new connection made during a networking event, the exclusive discounts that benefit your bottom line, and pointed advocacy efforts that benefit the whole industry at the local, state and federal levels.
