Hughes Autoformers Launches Second-Gen RV Surge Protector
Hughes Autoformers announced the launch of its second-generation Power Watchdog.
As the successor to the first Smart RV Surge Protector, which the company said became one of the best-selling RV accessories ever, the new Power Watchdog takes innovation and reliability to the next level.
The new Power Watchdog offers enhanced weather protection, improved security and unmatched user-friendliness. The advanced design includes a lockable, lit clamshell connection bay, making it easier to make connections in the dark while ensuring robust tamper resistance. The features not only protect an RV from electrical faults but also provide a seamless and secure user experience.
One of the standout features of the new Power Watchdog is the addition of built-in Wi-Fi to complement its existing Bluetooth technology. The integration allows RVers to stay connected and in control from anywhere in the world without the need for extra hardware. With Wi-Fi, users can effortlessly monitor and manage their RV’s power systems remotely.
Hughes said its Power Watchdog is more than just a surge protector – it’s a complete power management ecosystem for an RV. It continuously monitors for a range of faults multiple times per second. Should it detect an issue, it will immediately cut power to the RV and alert the owner. Once the fault has been resolved and stays resolved for 90 seconds, the Power Watchdog will automatically restore power. With the addition of Wi-Fi, users can control settings such as light brightness, track past faults, monitor energy consumption, reset the consumption meter, remotely cut and restore power to the RV, and get notified of faults anywhere there is cell service.
The second-generation Power Watchdog also features Hughes’ patented, replaceable surge module. In the event of severe power spikes, users can replace the module instead of the entire unit, making maintenance easy and cost-effective.
“We listened to our customers and took the best-selling surge protector on the market to the next level,” said Pat Thomas, owner of Hughes Autoformers. “We focused on every detail, from adding Wi-Fi for global connectivity to small touches like dimming the glow of the Watchdog face and the light in the all-new connection bay within the mobile app. Every detail has been scrutinized.”
The second-generation Power Watchdog smart RV surge protectors are available in 30- and 50-amp variants, with or without the Emergency Power Off feature.
