Silwy Launches Magnetic Products in the US

German-made cups, dishware and more secured safely with magnet technology.

When someone is described as “magnetic,” that means the person is seen as alluring, captivating or charismatic.

The same could be said for Silwy’s lineup of magnetic products, but the words practical, sensible and noteworthy also come to mind.

Silwy launched in 2015 in the Bavarian region of western Germany with a magnetic system that appeals to RVers and boaters alike. Now with 150-plus products and more than half a million customers worldwide, the company says its offerings are poised to make a splash in the U.S. market.

“Americans love German-made products,” says Tamas Nagy, Silwy’s global sales director.

Founded by Christoph Fritz, the goal was to use an embedded magnet in the base of the products with a metallic counterpart that ensures a secure hold without screws or drills. This system allows RVers to use tableware, glassware, plasticware, lamps and other accessories for their home-on-the-go without worrying about them falling over, rolling around inside cabinets and relieves passengers of the annoying sound of rattling.

While glassware is available, Silwy also sources a high-end, scratch-resistant plastic from Italy that results in attractive cups and wineglasses. Silwy also sells popular tumblers, paper towel holders, coffee mugs, spice containers and more.

It’s the magnetic component in the base of the dishes that interacts with a metal nano-gel pad that keeps plates and bowls from rattling and rocking while on the move.

Another handy item produced by Silwy is a universal can and bottle holder that holds a variety of items from an energy drink to a bottle of wine. Because of the flexibility of the nano-gel pad, it can be removed and reused and leaves no residue behind, the company says. The pads can also be washed, and the adhesive will reactivate once it’s dry.

A metal strip is also available that allows users to store the magnetic glasses or dishes upside down. The metal strip sticks to surfaces with a double-sided 3M adhesive tape, which makes the attachment permanent, according to Silwy’s website.

Silwy also sells magnetic hooks, pinboard sets, feeding bowls for pets and kids’ dishes with a variety of patterns.

Nagy says all of these products were created to help maximize space — a necessity for all RVers. Silwy products are distributed by NTP-STAG in the U.S. and Nagy says General RV has invited the company to display its products at “America’s Largest RV Show” in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Silwy is looking to increase its partnerships with OEMs and dealers, Nagy says.

“This is going to be the future,” he says. “When you feel the power of the magnet, then you feel how it works.”
