Tom Kline, founder and lead consultant for Better Vantage Point, a dealership consultancy, said he’s always disappointed when he hears the old excuse from dealers, “It’ll never happen to me,” in reference to someone finding themselves in hot water for noncompliance of government regulations. His response? “It’s going to happen to someone – why not you?” Kline’s company specializes in compliance issues and risk management and he said there is no reason for dealerships not to devote resources and staff time to making sure the rules are followed. The risks dealers take in ignoring them are just not worth the potential penalties.
