Although the 232 tariffs have been put in place for steel and aluminum, the anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations into aluminum alloy sheets from China are still ongoing. These investigations could result in additional levies on imports of Chinese aluminum alloy sheet at 56 percent for the antidumping duty, as well as 40 percent or more for countervailing duties.
It is anticipated that the Department of Commerce will be instituting a duty for the countervailing portion of the investigation next week. The anti-dumping duty investigation will be completed in June, with any resulting duties implemented at that time.
However, the International Trade Commission (ITC) portion of the investigation is still ongoing, and a hearing for that matter is likely to happen in October. If the ITC vacates the decision by Commerce, any duties paid up to that point will be refunded.
These investigations and the potential tariffs that may result from them represent a significant threat to the industry in terms of tariff rates and the RV Industry Association is actively working with the National Marine Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers to continue to engage on the matter.
