Affinity RV’s owner Bob Been and his 70 employees are in the midst of working the 18th annual Affinity RV Community Open House & Expo.
The four-day sale event running today is the company’s largest of the year and is taking place at Affinity RV’s Prescott, Ariz., location, Big Bug News reports.
Been says it takes his crew about three months to prepare for the bonanza.
He closes his two other locations, one in Prescott Valley and one in Dewey, brings over all of the product from them; and creates a family-friendly environment with free food, entertainment and interactive vendors.
Among a large list of vendors are Outdoor Sports, the Prescott Camera Club, Gunsite Academy, the Prescott Fire Department, Heritage Park Zoo, JTB, Sealand, the Northern Arizona Wolverines and Barrett Propane.
The event has changed drastically over the years as it has grown to become a staple of the community.
Been only had eight employees, 35 RVs and a 1.7-acre plot to work with during the first Open House & Expo in 1997.
He now has 300 vehicles, a nearly 12-acre plot of land and his 70 employees, plus their families, to help him coordinate the event.
“On our first sale, I believe we had about 200 people come through the dealership,” Been said. “These four days, I believe that we’re going to exceed the 3,500 level.”
This is the start of the RV season, according to Been.
“Right around the first part of May, people have a little pent up demand to get outside,” Been said.
From a business standpoint, the event serves two main purposes: to get those who already own an RV to see firsthand what is new in the industry; and to draw in first-time buyers by giving them an appealing opportunity to easily view and discuss the lifestyle being offered.
The event runs through May 4, with seminars and open displays. See www.affinityrv.com for the complete schedule, under the events tab.
