Burton Campers of Calera, Alabama, dutifully posted updates via its Facebook page Monday morning, letting customers know that their lot was still closed due to debris and damage from tornadoes that ravaged central Alabama Saturday.

“First of all, thank you SO MUCH to the lineman that worked tirelessly yesterday and into the night to get power poles set, lines repaired, and power restored,” the dealership shared on Facebook. “Secondly, thank you SO MUCH to everyone that has reached out to offer support and resources. The love that we have been met with is incredible.”

After a call to the dealership, one employee said they are “taking it one step at a time” and don’t have definite estimates yet on the number of units on their lot that sustained damage. “Thank you everyone for your patience, we know that you are incredibly anxious as to the status of your camper,” the Facebook post continued, referring to customer’s units that were on-site for maintenance or repairs.

The damage experienced at Burton Campers was just some of the destruction created in the wake of multiple tornadoes that ransacked the state — and surrounding states — on Saturday. One report from ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, Alabama, said the National Weather Service confirmed that five tornadoes touched ground in central Alabama.

“The Calera Tornado, rated EF1, had estimated peak winds of 90 mph and a path length of 9.70 miles. It caused damage in downtown Calera, including to several mobile homes and campers at a dealership,” according to the ABC 33/40 article.

“From the moment the tornado impacted our community, we have seen countless acts of selflessness that remind us just how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring and resilient community,” the city of Calera said in a release Sunday. The city made forms available to report if help is needed, or if you are able to lend help to those in need.

RV PRO will report back on ways to help Burton Campers, and other RV industry-related businesses in the area.
