Azdel Onboard Provides Lighter Material Solutions
Hanwha Azdel, a composite materials producer in Forest, Va., and a commercial applications center in Warren, Mich., is extoling the benefits of composite materials as an alternative to Lauan plywood as the summer season nears with water and temperature variations.
Composite materials, the company stated in a press release, are moisture resistant, lightweight, and stronger than wood, allowing RVs to be fuel-efficient. These puncture and impact resistant materials provide increased durability.
RVs that are closed for weeks or months are particularly susceptible to freezing and thawing that can allow water to seep in via roof seams, the company stated. Natural fiber decomposition occurs causing rot, mold and mildew formation along with warping that can lead to delamination or separation of layers in the material reducing its strength. Adhesive failure can occur when Luaun is exposed to water and temperature variations, which causes wet/dry cycles.
With a higher insulation value than wood, users can experience less heating and cooling costs and a quieter ride with less road and outside noise, according to the press release. These features allow for more comfort, lower operating costs, better safety, increased durability and longevity.
