Blue Ox and Portland, Ore.-based dealership B Young RV recently teamed up to provide Tents for Troops with the labor and supplies to equip the non-profit organization’s motorhome to tow a RAM 1500 truck.

The dealership installed the donated Aventa LX Tow Bar, along with a BrakeSafe, an air-actuated braking system.

“This 10,000-pound-rated tow bar arrived in a box with every possible accessory you could imagine,” Tents for Troops Founder Charlie Curry said.

Curry’s organization includes a nationwide network of campground partners that allow active military members and their family free camping. This year, Tents for Troops made in-roads into the RV industry through a program that would place RVs at partner parks for a small cleaning and restocking fee.

The accessories will come in handy, according to Curry, who has plans to travel to military bases and shows in the upcoming year to promote the organization and the RV lifestyle.

“The first time I unhooked the truck, it honestly took less than 60 seconds and that included putting the cover on the tow bar,” he said in a news release. “Tow bars have really came a long ways since I’ve owned an RV; what used to take heavy gloves and 20 minutes if you were lucky now takes a few minutes and it tows like a dream.”

To support Tents for Troops new initiatives this year, the organization began a campaign asking RV industry companies to consider a dollar-per-sale donation for units throughout the year, for which Newmar became the organization’s first partner.

Tents for Troops will attend this year’s RV Industry Association National RV Trade Show on Dec. 1-3 in Louisville, Ky. (Booth No. 828), where three-star U.S. Navy Adm. Kenny “Pink” Floyd will join Curry for the organization’s first trip to the National RV Show.
