Bracket, Water Heater Lead to Recalls

A pair of recalls is affecting two motorhome manufacturers.

Newmar Corp. is recalling certain model year 1997-2005 Dutch Star and Mountain Aire, 1998-1999 London Aire, 2004 Essex and 1997-1998 Kountry Aire motorhomes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The affected vehicles have a steering gear mounting bracket that may crack, causing a loss of steering ability.

A loss of steering increases the risk of a crash.

Newmar will notify owners, and Spartan dealers will replace the steering gear mounting brackets, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Feb. 5. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300 or Spartan customer service at 1-800-543-4277. Newmar’s number for this recall is 15V 633.

Triple E RVs is recalling certain model year 2013 Regency GT 24MB motorhomes manufactured Sept. 1, 2013, to Dec, 1, 2013, equipped with certain Atwood on demand water heaters, NHTSA said. The affected water heaters have a water and gas valve that may cause the water heater to overheat the water in the hot water supply tap.

The overheating of the water may result in the release of steam, possibly causing the operator is to scald themselves, increasing the risk of injury.

Triple E will notify owners and Atwood dealers will remedy the hot water heater issue, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in December 2015.
