Canadian campers showed an early sign of a strong season over the Victoria Day weekend last week, according to reports from Kampgrounds of America.

Victoria Day, which falls on the Monday preceding May 25 throughout the company, is the country’s first major warm-weather holiday weekend, and generally considered to be the unofficial start to the Canadian camping season.

Occupancy at the 31 Kampgrounds of America locations throughout Canada was up 24 percent from the results in 2015, according to KOA.

The early-season number outpaces a report last month, in which KOA reported that Canadian campers intended to increase camping trips by 18 percent in 2016.
