More than 100 business leaders gathered at LEX 530 event center this week to learn more about Acts of Service, the free platform that connects volunteers with nonprofits.
Acts of Service Director Michilah Grimes shared an update on the community service hub’s success at the Jan. 23 breakfast. The nonprofit reached an important milestone, exceeding its goal of more than 200,000 volunteer hours last year.
The breakfast included presentations by Shelley Becker of LoveWay, who shared how critical volunteers are to the success of the special needs therapeutic horseback riding program. And a panel of business leaders shared their view of corporate social responsibility and the impact Acts of Service has had on their organizations.
Panelists included Jason Lippert, CEO of Lippert Components, Amish Shah, CEO of Kem Krest and Jon Wenger, president and CEO of Genesis Products.
“We live in a very generous community where people want to give back and help in any way they can. Acts of Service is happy to help fill the gap and get people connected with needs in the community,” said Grimes. She added that volunteers helped save nonprofits an estimated $5.3 million in hourly wages.
Acts of Service works with businesses and individuals who want to make an impact in their community.
