Community: Thor and KOA Partner for ‘Pick Up America’
Thor Industries and Kampgrounds of America recently launched the Pick Up America campaign, a multi-year joint endeavor. Pick Up America has a shared focus on preservation. The program’s first initiative is to remove a minimum of five tons of trash from public lands in the coming months.
Thor and KOA will encourage summer travelers to pick up garbage as they stay at campgrounds. To keep track of progress, participants can go to PickUpAmerica.com and pledge how many garbage bags of trash they will fill and dispose of, post their efforts on social media and engage with others who are participating in the program.
Throughout the month of May, participating KOA campgrounds will help to kick off the program. Specially-branded bags can be picked up, filled and returned to participating KOA locations across the country.
“While people are enjoying our country’s parks and national landmarks, we wanted to inspire them to help keep these places beautiful for current and future campers,” said Bob Martin, president and CEO of Thor. “KOA shares our vision of protecting outdoor recreation and we know our combined forces on this project will motivate consumers to make real change to improve our environment.”
Participants are encouraged to post about their pick-up efforts on social media using #PickUpAmerica and tagging @THORIndustries and @KampgroundsofAmerica.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this wonderful effort,” said Toby O’Rourke, president and CEO of KOA. “The premise is so simple, yet we know it will be incredibly effective at getting people outside and involved in the care of our public lands.”
The partnership between Thor and KOA will extend beyond 2019, as additional challenges will be announced after the five-ton goal is reached. In an effort to expand this initiative, Thor will evaluate the potential for partnerships with other outdoor leaders who share the same values and vision.
