Community: Thor, KOA Surpass ‘Pick Up America’ Goal

More than 130 tons of garbage have been committed to be removed from public lands since May due to the first-ever “Pick Up America” campaign by Thor Industries and Kampgrounds of America (KOA). Pick Up America participants quickly rallied to make the program exceed its original fifty-ton goal by 273 percent. This multi-year joint endeavor will help the country’s stunning public lands stay beautiful for future campers.

“Pick Up America resonated with us because as avid outdoor explorers, we want to keep our public spaces clean and beautiful for the next generation to enjoy,” said Brandy Gleason, creator of RV and family travel blog Gleason Family Adventure.

Pick Up America will continue to encourage public trash removal by providing entry to the Pick Up America Sweepstakes for participants making the pledge. The sweepstakes is giving one lucky entrant the chance to win the “ultimate RV adventure” that includes a $2,500 Cruise America RV gift card, $750 gas gift card, a 5-year Roadtrippers Plus membership and more. Interested participants can pledge and enter through Sept. 10.

“We are thrilled that we have already surpassed our original trash pick-up pledge by over 75 tons,” said Bob Martin, president and CEO of Thor. “As summer travelers continue enjoying their favorite outdoor activities, we hope these new incentives encourage people to continue preserving the beauty of our public lands.”

Throughout the campaign, participating KOA campgrounds will be giving out specially-branded garbage bags to be filled and disposed of.
