CURT Introduces Auto-Locking Pintle Hitch
CURT has introduced a new series of pintle hitch and lunette ring products called SecureLatch. These products are engineered to solve the problems of the noisy pintle connection, difficult trailer hookup and more, according to the company. It features a cupped hook design and auto-locking coupler mechanism.
SecureLatch pintle hitches feature a patented auto-locking lever that engages the primary latch without any manual coupling required. To connect, just back up to the trailer to strike the integrated pintle hitch back plate. Drop the trailer tongue and lunette ring down, and the auto-lock will latch into place without manual coupling required.
SecureLatch has a number of features in addition to the auto-lock:
- Cupped hook – SecureLatch pintle hooks and combos have a cupped design that tightly holds the lunette ring, fore and aft. This reduces chucking and clunking noises common in pintle towing, particularly compared to traditional pintle hooks.
- Slotted pintle mounts – SecureLatch pintle mounts adjust vertically but uses slots instead of fixed holes. This makes adjustment much easier. Instead of disassembling the hitch, users only need to loosen the bolts slightly. The bolts also provide 48,000 pounds of clamp pressure for a secure connection.
- Safety chain hangers – SecureLatch hitches have built-in safety chain hangers to keep the safety chains from dragging on the ground.
- Built-in lunette ring lock – SecureLatch lunette rings come with an integrated locking pin that accepts a padlock. Insert the pin to protect the trailer when it’s unattended and turn the pin 90 degrees while coupled.
The SecureLatch series consists of pintle hooks, ball and pintle combination hitches and lunette rings, as well as pintle mounts and channel mounts. The pintle hitches are available in a receiver-mount style or plate-mount style to be paired with a SecureLatch pintle mount. Each accessory also features a highly durable, dark gray teridium powder coat finish.
