A fire damaged or destroyed eight of 36 units at Pacific Pines RV Park and Storage in Florence, Ore., earlier this week, and local officials estimate the damage may total $5 million.

The point of origin of the fire, which occurred Tuesday (June 16) morning, appears to have been a 2014 Chevrolet delivery van inside Unit 11, Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal Sean Barrett told the Eugene Register-Guard. The cause of the fire, however, is still under investigation, he said.

The box van was being stored at the complex for a building contractor and had 3,000 miles on the odometer, Barrett said.

The damage estimate includes both structures and contents. The high-end storage facility stored a motorhome valued at $300,000, an antique Mustang and an antique roadster — all destroyed, Barrett said.

Another motorhome was lost not to flames but to the intensity of heat that ran along its ceiling, he said.

Barrett said he believes the facility was insured. However, the renters of each unit were responsible for insuring their property, he said.
