On the heels of record crowds at the Tampa SuperShow at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa in January, dealers in the state are gearing up for larger turnout at the Jacksonville RV MegaShow later this month, the Florida Times-Union reports.

The four-day event opens Thursday (Feb. 26) and ends Sunday (March 1) at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center.

“The Tampa Show is the nation’s largest and considered the bellwether show for the entire RV industry,” John Schuster, general manager of Camping World Jacksonville and chairman of Region 6 Northeast Florida chapter of the Florida RV Trade Association, told the Times-Union. “We’ve been averaging just over 10,000 at the Jacksonville MegaShow, which has been rising every year since the recession ended. Based on the showing in Tampa, we’re hopeful this is the year we break the 12,000 mark.”

The four-day Tampa show drew more than 63,000 people — about a 10 percent gain over last year. According to FRVTA Marketing Director Dave Kelly, sales were so good that dealers wanted it to last a few days longer.

“We had so many attendees on opening day that I thought we were giving away gold bars,” he joked. “In reality, it’s just a defining point that the RV industry, especially in Florida, has done an outstanding job of detailing how exciting the RV lifestyle is and the enjoyment it offers.”

Northeast Florida RV dealers are optimistic that with lower gas prices and more discretionary income available, the Jacksonville RV MegaShow will experience a similar increase in attendance.

“It’s really the best way to shop for an RV, whether you’re already an RV owner looking to trade up or a first-timer who just wants to kick the tires,” said Joe Andrick, general manager of Dick Gore’s RV World in St. Augustine. “All the manufacturers and dealers are at one place, offering discounts and giving you the opportunity to see all the newest models in one location.”

More than 400 recreational vehicles of all types, including motor homes, travel trailers, fifth-wheels and tent campers, will be on display at the Jacksonville RV MegaShow. Participating dealers include Campers Inn (Jacksonville), Camping World RV Sales (Jacksonville/St. Augustine), Dick Gore’s RV World (Jacksonville), General RV Center (Orange Park), Ocean Grove RV Supercenter (St. Augustine) and, new to the area, Travelcamp (Jacksonville).
