Dealerships Adjust to New Normal
In the long haul, sometimes economic setbacks make your business better. Two long-standing, family-owned Oregon RV businesses — Guaranty in Junction City and Sutton in Eugene — share adjustments they made after jarring economic downturns.
But while those “cabins and cottages” on wheels keep rolling during economic downturns, they may not be as big or fancy, or even all that new.
High-end motorhome sales all but died with the Great Recession, according to Shannon Nill of Guaranty RV in Junction City.
Guaranty kept busy during the downturn of ’08 and the winter of ’09 doing repairs.
Today, post-recession, RV sales have rebounded across the board at Guaranty’s 40-acre enterprise, which remains largest of all in the Pacific Northwest.
Yet, the Nill family, owners of Guaranty RV, are now more selective with inventory: They carry fewer high-end diesel motorhomes, for example, and more at the mid-price “sweet spot” of around $100,000 to $150,000, including new camper vans.
