On Thursday (Dec. 29), Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana will receive a truckload of essential items from an Elkhart Holiday Basket Drive.
Over 100 laundry baskets filled with food, snacks, utensils, games, laundry and toiletry items will be delivered to the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Memorial Children’s Hospital.
The Holiday Basket Drive was coordinated by RMHC board member and Dicor President Gregg Fore. Many of Dicor’s employees participated, as well as friends and families in the Elkhart community. The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary lodging for families of seriously ill or injured children being treated at Memorial Children’s Hospital.
“I was thrilled about the amount of contributions donated by the people of this community,” says Gregg Fore. “Children respond better and heal faster when their parents are with them. What appears to be a simple box of cookies or bottle of shampoo, is just one less thing a worried parent needs to think about when at bedside with their child. And I’m proud to see how much local people care.”
Located in South Bend, Indiana, the charity serves families from 19 counties in Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. The donation will help supply the new 20 bedroom expansion of the charity, scheduled to open in February.
“The timing of this donation couldn’t be better,” says Becky Summers, President and CEO of RMHC of Michiana. “We’re excited to open the new House, and with more families staying with us, we’ll certainly need more everyday items to provide them with the daily support they need.”
