Meyer Show

Editor’s note: This is part of our series of web exclusives about distributor shows in January.

As the industry welcomes the winter distribution season, Meyer Distributing has its “Spring Show” ready to roll later this month.

This month, the Jasper, Ind.-based wholesaler hosts its eMeyer Mega Show, also called the Meyer Spring Show, from Jan. 20 to Feb. 3, making for an earlier-than-usual debut to accommodate RV dealers, according to Meyer RV/Towing Category Sales Manager Jason Lents.

“We’re excited, to say the least,” Lents said. “To accommodate more for the RV dealers, we’ve moved the show up a bit because we’ve found that the best time for those dealers is in that January-to-February period.”

That’s not to say last year’s event, the first since Meyer joined the RV wholesale space in 2015, was disappointing.

“We had an amazing turnout from the RV side (in 2016). We were very pleased,” he said. “However, based on some feedback … we’ve moved the show up this year by three weeks.”

The 13-day event is one of two online shows the company will host this year. This month’s event once took place in the Spring, but despite the show’s date moving earlier in the season over the years, the name has stuck.

During the event, registered dealers can make purchases through Meyer’s online EMMS system during business hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday).

Lents notes that dealers must register to take advantage of the show’s pricing.

“There’s huge savings that (first) week. We’ll have all staff here on-hand to help them,” he said, referring to the live support offered throughout the show.

In addition to special pricing and periodic specials, Meyer offers two buying tiers over the course of the event based on purchases. Once reached, the spending tiers apply a percentage of rebates to the total order.

“Once they hit that threshold of qualifying for extra discounts, then it goes back to dollar one and that’s where the rebates start for the program,” Lents explains.

The idea behind the online event, rather than brick-and-mortar show, is simple: save money.

“You don’t have to travel,” Lents said. “You can stay in the friendly confines of your dealership and take care of (purchases) from there, and go home to your family at night.

“It saves a lot of expense on the dealer side, and really everyone involved, so the dealer can pass on those savings to the customer.”

Though its show is online, wholesale company sees a lot of value in both the brick-and-mortar shows it attends throughout the year, as well as the company’s operations and customers.

“We are here to stay, and we definitely want to support the brick-and-mortar and the industry as a whole, just as we have on the automotive side for years,” Lents said.

Following its mid-2015 entry into the market, the company spent much of 2016 reinforcing its infrastructure by adding seven cross dock locations, where fleet drivers connect to local delivery.
