Duo Form Launches New Intubation Boxes

Duo Form has launched its new DUO Intubation Boxes used to help protect medical workers on the front lines in the battle against the novel coronavirus. The DUO Intubation Boxes provide additional protection between medical staff and patient when performing endotracheal intubation in a patient with known or suspected COVID-19.

Intubating a COVID-19 patient is considered an extremely high-risk procedure for medical staff and the box is designed to reduce this risk by containing the aerosols generated by the patient during the intubation procedure.
The DUO Intubation Box is different from other similar products on the market, as it is designed to come apart in four pieces for easy cleaning and disinfecting and collapses flat for easy storage and shipping.

The DUO intubation box is five-sided, manufactured of durable polycarbonate, with easy-access openings and they’re reusable after being wiped down and disinfected. It is designed with handles to make it less cumbersome for actual use. The box can also be kept over the patient’s head during transport.

“The DUO Box provides additional protection between the medical staff and a high-risk patient during an intubation. This box is designed to reduce risk by containing fine particulate matter and liquids produced by the patient during the intubation process,” said Mike Gonser, director of Duo’s new product development. “We just want to be able to help protect our health care workers and help the nation end the pandemic.”
In working with local hospitals, Shelly Ditmer, VP of sales at Duo, found that “when doctors and nurses are doing airway intubation procedures, there is often a lot of coughing and extra risk of exposure of the virus even if the equipment and personal protection gear is doing its job, when they go to remove those items, they are at a high risk again of being exposed.”

“We are currently ramping up production with the goal of manufacturing 50 boxes per day within one week of launch, and ramping up from there,” said Gonser.

“We have a strong commitment to our employees, customers, service partners, and communities during the ongoing coronavirus situation. Ensuring their safety continues to be our number one commitment,” said Ditmer.

Meanwhile, since last week, Edwardsburg Thermoforming has begun to produce up to 1,200 polycarbonate face shields per day expanding distribution to both Michigan and Indiana hospitals, local medical facilities, local civic entities including police and fire squads, retirement homes and more.

DUO Form is beginning to promote the availability of these masks to other local essential frontline workers, including retail, grocery, and restaurant staff. The face shields are washable and durable, the clear shield is designed so it can be disinfected and reused, and the foam pad and head strap are replaceable.
