Canada-based Easy Access Industrial Design has introduced its “engineer-stamped, safety compliant” Powered Rooftop Worker Containment System.
Easy Access, which has been building sturdy scaffolding systems since it launched in 2005, was chosen by one of the largest RV rental agencies in Canada, CanaDreams, to develop a worker containment system for five of its North American locations.
The powered rooftop worker containment system is designed to provide a cost-effective and time-efficient alternative to engineered overhead harness systems, according to Easy Access. A single worker can adjust platform height with a drill driver and set up the perimeter railing in less than 60 seconds, creating safe rooftop access for working on the tops of RVs, the company said.
“PPE (personal protective equipment) like a fall arrest harness system is protecting you only once (the) fall has occurred, and when fall arrest harness systems are used,” said Christian Levielle, Canadreams health and safety coordinator for North America. “In addition of potential body injuries (head, arms, legs) the possibility of suspension trauma is a serious concern. This condition, which is potentially fatal, occurs when a person is suspended motionless in a vertical position in the harness while awaiting rescue.”
