Electric RV Concept Gets Range-Extending Rotary Engine

Motorhomes have a specialist market and it’s been that way for quite some time. The thought of life on the road is quite off-putting for some, however with the banes of COVID-19, more and more people are deciding to take on some staycations, and what better way to do it than in a fully loaded motorhome.
The downsides to motorhome living are plenty. Fuel economy goes out the window, most are huge and hard to manage on smaller roads and overall can feel too dated for everyday living. The motorhome we are looking at today however is quite the opposite.
Meet the E.Power Drive, a compact motorhome by Knaus Tabbert debuting at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany. The trick up its sleeve and the thing that separates it from most RVs is that along with its all-electric powertrain, it has a rotary engine as a range extender. And surprisingly, Mazda had absolutely nothing to do with this.
So, who is this crazy company using rotary technology in an electric motor home? Well, they’re called Knaus Tabbert. They happen to be one of the leading manufacturers of leisure vehicles in Germany and throughout Europe. In fact, the company umbrellas six brands under their name. Spanning over four locations, they manufacture upwards of 24,000 motorhomes and caravans each year.
