Faulty Wheel Connections Cause Pair of Recalls

Two RV manufacturers are recalling as many as 167 units due to faulty studs used to attach the wheels to the axle hubs, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Highland Ridge RV is recalling 103 of its 2016 Open Range Mesa Ridge, Light and Roamer trailers and fifth wheels (models 16LF, 16MF, 16 RF, 16LT, 16MR and 16RT), and Starcraft RV is recalling 64 of its 2016 Autumn Ridge trailers (models 284, 285, 288, 28D and 28G) due to the defective studs, which could cause the wheel to detach from the vehicle.

Highland Ridge will notify owners, and dealers will replace any affected wheel hub, at no cost. The recall is expected to begin May 29. Owners may contact Highland Ridge customer service at 260-768-7771. Highland Ridge’s numbers for this recall are 9904237 and 9904238.

Starcraft will notify owners, and dealers will replace any affected wheel hub at no cost. The recall is expected to begin May 18. Owners may contact Starcraft customer service at 1-800-945-4787. Starcraft’s numbers for this recall are 9902237 and 9902238.

Highland Ridge is also recalling about five of its 2015 Residential 417RS fifth wheel trailers due to a short flexible gas line for the kitchen slide-out section.

When the slide is fully extended, it may stretch the hose, leading to an increased risk of a gas leak and fire.

Highland Ridge will notify owners, and dealers will replace the existing gas line with a new longer gas line, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in May 2015. Thor Motor Coach will recall 168 units from its 2016 Four Winds, Citation, Outlaw, Chateau, Siesta and Freedom Elite motorhomes due to missing water weight carrying capability information on the Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity label.

TMC will notify owners and will provide a new OCCC label with the correct information, free of charge. The recall began on May 1. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-500-1020. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000099.
