“They’re a massive resource when you consider the congregate living situations that we often see in Monterey county and so having the availability of that resource is something that right now we’re just thankful for,” said county supervisor Chris Lopez.
Monterey county is set to receive nearly 100 trailers.
County leaders said they’re also in discussions with Salinas about possibly putting trailers at the rodeo grounds.
The trailers could be used to shelter those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the trailers could be set up to provide minimal treatment and isolation to those infected with the virus.
County health leaders said Tuesday we may still be very early in this pandemic and a surge of patients could tax local hospital and resources.
The trailers they said could provide some relief if hospitals get overwhelmed.
“Prepare for the worst hope for the best and we’re prepared as a county we’ve stepped out in front and we’ve lead and we’re now in a position to say we can handle more than we could have just a few weeks ago,” said Lopez.
