Field Notes: Live from Open House

  • Sammy Hagar entertained Grand Design dealers and invitees Monday night at a concert put on by Grand Design. The Red Rocker and Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame member played many hits spanning his half-century career – you’d never know it by looking at him! – including many solo career cuts and even some Van Halen favorites from the days he fronted that band. Grand Design CEO and co-founder Don Clark introduced Sammy and also thanked his dealer partners for a great 10 years in business.
  • The Elcona Country Club in Bristol, Indiana, is a picturesque setting for Winnebago’s Open House display, featuring the Micro Minnie with various floorplans and the 30th anniversary edition of the Adventurer. Amid the crisp temperatures and leaves just starting to change colors, the Adventurer’s new exterior graphics, front grill update and LED headlights were just the beginning of the updates. John Bonczyk, who oversees the Class As and is also the director of electrification strategy, said the company is proud of what they put into the 30th edition Adventurer.
  • The Forest River Expo proved a popular destination on Tuesday – so popular that the company had to start running shuttles from outlying parking lots to the Expo site. The weather stayed cool all day but the rain generally stayed away.
  • If you’re a fan of logistics, or perhaps putting jigsaw puzzles together, you have to tip your hat to the hundreds of workers and volunteers who put Open House Week together. The thousands of RVs, the vendors at the Supplier Show, the caterers, the entertainment – it’s like the world’s biggest puzzle but you’re assembling the pieces in multiple rooms in the house. Somehow it all comes together to give the dealers and others who invested the time and expense to come to Elkhart a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience. Kudos!
