First Responders Conduct ‘Camp Hero’ for Students at Gulf Stream Coach
Grade-school students learned about the jobs of first responders this week during a summer day-camp hosted by Gulf Stream Coach. “Camp Hero” was led by members of the Nappanee, Indiana, police force, fire department, and other first responders.
The stage for the week-long camp was set when a Med Flight helicopter landed at Gulf Stream Coach, while service vehicles with emergency lights blazing lined up on the drive leading to the entrance of The Hall to at Oakland Park, which served as the “clubhouse” for the week’s activities.
Student-participants were able to meet and talk to real-life heroes, who used several interactive presentations to describe their responsibilities. The students heard directly from officers about their duties, from barn fires to bomb squad skills and swat team procedures. Students were able to examine key protective and defensive gear and heard inspiring stories about the challenges and rewards of a career in public service.
Gulf Stream Coach maintains Oakland Park and The Hall on the site of its main production complex to provide facilities for a wide range of activities like “Camp Hero,” other community gatherings, private social events, dealer functions and employee celebrations.
“We find it particularly fulfilling to be able strengthen the community around us by offering our property for events like ‘Camp Hero,’” said Doreen Helmuth, Oakland Park event coordinator for Gulf Stream Coach.
