‘Fore the Kids’ Golf Tournament Raises $20K for Care Camps Foundation

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) recently held the third annual Fore the Kids Golf Tournament, a fundraising event to support the Care Camps Foundation.

This event, which took place at The Briarwood Golf Club in Billings, Montana, raised $20,000 for the foundation.

The Care Camps Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that funds medically supervised pediatric oncology camps across North America. The amount raised during the golf tournament will go to support sending children and their families affected by cancer to summer camps staffed with medical professionals and camp counselors, allowing an opportunity for kids to experience the outdoors.

“KOA is a proud supporter of the Care Camps Foundation,” said KOA’s president and CEO Toby O’Rourke. “KOA’s mission, to connect people to the outdoors and each other, aligns seamlessly with Care Camps’ mission to create opportunities for healing, hope and connection in the outdoors for children experiencing cancer.”

The third annual event hosted 30 teams from across the country. Participants traveled from as far away as Indianapolis, Indiana, and San Diego, California, to take part in the event. Unlike traditional golf tournaments, Fore the Kids incorporates interactive activities designed to provide a camping experience while on the course; activities included a cornhole contest, water gun races and relay tic tac toe.

“We heard from so many participants that this tournament has become one they look forward to every year,” said O’Rourke. “It is great to bring so many partners, volunteers and supporters together for a fun and meaningful event.”

The Care Camps Foundation board and staff were also onsite during the event to promote and thank attendees. George Laufenberg, the executive director of Camp Make-A-Dream out of Goldcreek, Montana, was also onsite to provide insight on the significance of KOA’s donations to Care Camps.

“Care Camps Foundation is immensely grateful to everyone at KOA and all who participated in and sponsored the Fore the Kids Golf Tournament,” said Gwynn Sullivan, Care Camps executive director. “The enthusiastic support and generous donations received from the proceeds will help fulfill KOA’s mission of providing transformative camp experiences for children and families navigating a cancer journey.”
