General RV Center, one of the largest family-owned RV retailers in the nation, will relocate its national headquarters to Wixom, Mich., on May 13.
Over the past year, General RV Center redeveloped 34 acres of the former historic Wixom Ford Assembly Plant. Located a mile from the original General RV Center corporate facility on Interstate 96, the new building is three times the size at 98,000 square feet. In addition to corporate and IT offices, the building includes a stunning showroom featuring hundreds of RVs, a sales center, 40 service bays, and a parts store.
“There is nothing like this in the Midwest,” said Rob Baidas, chairman of General RV. “We are excited to offer this expanded facility and service center to current General RV Center customers and look forward to meeting new ones.”
The official grand opening begins with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. – tours of the building and other festivities will follow. RV manufacturer representatives, government officials and industry members will be in attendance. The public is invited.
General RV Center has long been a part of Michigan. Founder Ambrose Baidas decided to go into the RV business after a family trip out West in the mid-1960s and named the business General Trailers.
Thirty years later, in the 1990s, with five General Trailer stores established around metro Detroit, the Baidas family changed the business name to General RV Center. The business is currently run by Loren Baidas, grandson of the founder.
“Both my grandfather and father would be so proud to see where their vision, hard work and dedication has taken General RV,” said Loren Baidas, president of General RV Center.
