General RV to Host Groundbreaking on First Tarheel State Store
Next Tuesday, Aug. 15, General RV, the nation’s largest family-owned RV dealer will break ground on its first store in North Carolina on property in Salisbury, approximately 40 miles north of Charlotte.
The location is also about 20 miles east of Mooresville, North Carolina, which is known as “Race City USA” because it is the home of many NASCAR racing teams and drivers, along with an IndyCar team and its drivers, and racing technology suppliers.
The company is investing about $25 million in land and equipment in opening its 16th supercenter, slated for sometime next year. The 40-acre site will house a 71,000-square-foot building with space to house 700 RVs inside and elsewhere on the lot. It will feature 34 service bays, including a six-bay body shop. It is expected to create 150 full-time jobs over the next three years along with an additional 66 indirect and induced jobs in Rowan County. The average annual salary for employees is expected to be $65,000, the company said.
Possibly its centerpiece feature will be a stream running through the middle of the site, with two bridges built to cross it.
The groundbreaking event will start at 9:30 ET at the building site at 595 E. Ritchie Road. General RV President, Loren Baidas, will be on hand along with other city and county representatives to celebrate.
