Go RVing Details Young Entrepreneur Trends, Social Commerce
Go RVing released its August Monthly Trends Report with findings on more younger people aspiring to start businesses and “side hustles” to pursue a more fulfilling life.
“People are discovering business opportunities and launching side hustles thanks to TikTok. The platform makes it easy to share money-making ideas such as remote transcription jobs, print-on-demand clothing stores and owning vending machines, to name a few. It’s all part of a larger movement among young people to seek more control over their time and income through nontraditional means,” said a quote from CNBC in the report.
Google searches for “side hustle” have increased 3-fold since 2018, and 10% of Gen Z plans to start their own business in the next six months, a Canvas8 report found. Additionally, families who travel are 80% more likely to have someone in the household who owns a business.
“A Microsoft survey revealed that Gen Zers are more likely to pursue multiple side hustles than small business owners. This follows efforts by younger generations to maximize the value of their time and experiences in both their personal and professional lives. As a result, the concept of ‘hustle culture’ is evolving to include more flexible work schedules, working vacations and personal time,” CNBC noted.
Go RVing said as younger generations start to align their work and personal aspirations, the RV industry can support rising entrepreneurship by:
- Demonstrating how working from an RV offers flexibility without compromising on productivity
- Targeting young entrepreneurs to inform them of the unique entrepreneur opportunities the growing RV industry provides through owning and renting RVs through the peer-to-peer ecosystem or even becoming a mobile RV repair technician
In addition, Go RVing noted the new “TikTok Shop” feature recently introduced on TikTok, which enables merchants, brands and creators to sell products directly on the platform. Users can enjoy a seamless shopping experience through in-feed videos, LIVEs and a designated product showcase tab within the app.
“Social media has become an essential launchpad for small businesses and personal brands,” Go RVing said. “Shopping features on social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, and now TikTok are reimagining how users find and purchase products. It’s critical for RV dealers and the entire RV and camping industry to recognize the growth potential of social commerce and the changing purchasing behaviors of young consumers. By adapting social content strategies and leveraging shopping features across platforms, RV brands can help young consumers discover and engage with RVing in new ways.”
