Half of Campers Adjust Travel Plans Due to Weather, Study Finds

The following is a report from Modern Campground.

The latest research from MC Hospitality Highlights reveals that half of all campers adjust their travel schedules based on weather conditions, while 3 out of 10 choose off-season trips to avoid extreme weather.

The newly released report, titled “Weathering the Storm: Strategies for Campgrounds to Thrive in Any Climate,” offers insights and strategies to keep guests comfortable and safe, no matter the weather.

Scott Bahr, president of Cairn Consulting Group, emphasized the importance of these findings: “Weather significantly influences campers’ decisions. By understanding and addressing these concerns, we can help campgrounds provide a superior guest experience.”

The report details how campgrounds can adapt their facilities and services to various weather conditions. For cold weather, it suggests providing heated cabins, insulated yurts, fire pits and guided winter hikes to keep guests warm and engaged. On rainy days, indoor facilities like common rooms, game rooms, fitness centers and organized activities such as arts and crafts workshops can ensure guests remain entertained and comfortable.

Brian Searl, founder and CEO of Modern Campground, added, “Our goal is to empower campground operators with actionable information that enhances guest satisfaction and drives revenue. This report provides a comprehensive guide to do just that — helping operators weather-proof their offerings for year-round success.”

The report also discusses the concept of a weather guarantee, boosting customer trust and loyalty by defining “severe weather” conditions and offering compensation options, thus setting campgrounds apart from competitors and enhancing their reputation.
