Greenfield, Ind.-based Mount Comfort RV rolled out the red carpet Monday, Jan. 31, for its 10,000th customer, presenting the coach’s keys in a special ceremony in the dealership’s indoor showroom.

The event marks a significant milestone for the Central Indiana company, which has grown in just 16 years from family-startup to one of the largest, independent, single-lot dealerships in the United States.

“This really is the story of the ‘Little Engine That Could’,” said MCRV owner and founder Ken Eckstein. “We started this company as a mom-and-pop shop with just 18 employees, seven of whom are still with us. We’re up to nearly 70 employees. We have 17 acres and a 10,000-square-foot showroom.”

“That’s a lot of growth in not a lot of time,” said MCRV President Rusty Eckstein. …

For Ken Eckstein, the event also marked something of a personal milestone. He began his RV career in 1973, as a teen with a two-dollar-an-hour job washing trailers at Duffin’s Trailer Sales. Later, seeking a way to pay for his looming college debt, Eckstein took a job as an RV technician.

In 2006, Eckstein bought the assets of the dealership where he’d once washed campers, creating MCRV.

“Don’t get me wrong. I’m proud that a little dealer from Greenfield, Indiana, could sell 10,000 RVs. But it’s not just about selling RVs. It’s about helping 10,000 families achieve their goals,” said Eckstein.
