Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds recently signed Senate File 435, a towable-only RV specific franchise bill. SF 435 addresses the unique business model followed by RV dealers and manufacturers. The new law will institute a section of the Iowa code which regulates the RV manufacturer–dealer relationship as it relates to towable RVs.
SF 435 had bipartisan support throughout the legislative process and passed unanimously in both the House and Senate. The new law will take effect Jan. 1, 2020.
“The signing of this law is the latest victory in the long-term effort to enact RV specific franchise laws across the country,” said Jay Landers, the RV Industry Association VP of government affairs. “These laws bring consistency for our manufacturers and the dealers with whom they do business. We appreciate the work of the state dealer groups, especially Adam Ruppel in Iowa, who was key to making this happen.”
“We are pleased that Gov. Reynolds has signed the RV specific franchise bill into law,” said Michael Happe, Winnebago president and CEO. “We feel that this, like RV-specific franchise legislation in a number of other states, makes a great deal of sense and enhances our ability to conduct business across the U.S. on a consistent basis.”
