Forest City leaders as well as around 20 locals toured Winnebago Industries on Friday as part of manufacturing month, reports.

While those at Iowa State University agree that Iowa is an agriculturally dominant state, they say only 5-6 percent of the states annual revenue comes from corn and soybeans, while nearly 20 percent comes from manufacturing.

“What were trying to do is promote manufacturing,” saidPaul Gormley, Iowa State University’s Industrial Research and Service Project Manager. “The jobs have come a long way, working conditions are getting better and better, there are a lot of really exciting new opportunities in manufacturing.”
