Jason Industries owner Jason Franklin said that the company, located at 1500 West Lusher Ave., was selling its truck cap division to ATC Truck Covers, an Ottawa, Kan.-based company. The move will affect 70 workers in Elkhart, some of which will be moved to other divisions, but Franklin said a few layoffs are expected.
The company is set to focus more on its custom pontoon and towable RV cap divisions.
ATC Truck Covers is part of the Kansas-based nonprofit DeBruce Foundation, which focuses on promoting job training and collaboration among the communities it operates in. Most of the profits that are earned through the companies it supports, including ATC Truck Covers, is then utilized by the foundation to support its training initiatives, according to David Price, president of the DeBruce Manufacturing Group.
Price said that by purchasing the truck cap division of Jason Industries, ATC will now have access to more dealers and a larger product line. They are currently looking to hire 20 to 25 workers at their 90,000 square-foot facility in Kansas.
Price would not disclose the purchase price of Jason Industries’ truck cap division.
