Kentucky’s Bluegrass RV to Open Three Weeks

Bluegrass RV has been selling new travel trailers even though the dealership’s official opening is three weeks away. The dealership in the former Fannin building on U.S. 60 in Kentucky plans a grand opening, but apparently the sight of shiny new RVs was too much for some to resist. “We’ve sold 20 since the first of July. They drive by, they see the campers and they pull in,” said Todd Meade, one of three owners.

This story Mike James originally appeared in The Daily Independent.

The building required about $1.5 million to make it ready, he said. Meade and his partners have hired 20 people, all but two of them locally, for sales and office staff. They plan a full staff of 50 to 70 people.

The parts department will incorporate a wide range of outdoor equipment and supplies, akin to the camping department of a sporting goods store, according to Meade.

The company acquired a number of stuffed animal specimens from the former Fannin collection and plans to use them to display campers in a setting portraying the outdoors.

Bluegrass RV has been a Lexington, Ky., fixture for 30 years and Meade and his partners took over about three years ago.

Once fully up and running, the dealership will hold some $10 million in inventory including motorhomes, fifth wheel campers, travel trailers, popup campers and parts.

The grand opening is scheduled for Aug. 11.
