Kingstar’s Overland Trailer Features a Garage That Doubles as a Bedroom
The following is a report from AutoEvolution.
Admittedly, you can’t have it all in life, but let that not stop you from trying. This overlanding RV is an example of trying to “have it all”: the full list of comfort creatures, a compact footprint, overlanding capabilities, and the ability to haul gear or sleep an additional person in separate quarters.
From only reading this, you could be deceived into thinking we’re talking about some kind of gigantic overlanding beast like inventor Bran Ferren’s Kiravan, arguably the biggest, most expensive, and most badass overlander ever designed — not “built” because it’s yet to see completion. In reality, the brand-new KRUZR K180 is puny by comparison.
If the name KRUZR rings a bell, it must be because it’s one of the most successful products coming from Michigan-based specialist Kingstar. Kingstar started out in the business with horse trailers before moving into the overlanding sector, where KRUZR quickly became the embodiment of outstanding performance, solid design, and excellent craftsmanship.
Kingstar offers the KRUZR truck camper in a variety of sizes/models, with a variety of add-ons, depending on what you need it for — when overlanding, quite obviously. It can be a full mobile home or a mobile office for the adventurous digital nomad, a basic shelter and a toy hauler, or anything in between, as long as you have the money for it.
The latest addition to the KRUZR family is somewhat surprising, if only on account of the fact that it’s not a camper anymore. Or it’s not as much of a camper as previous models. Kingstar took the truck camper layout and turned it into a travel trailer, adding a separate room at the bottom of the front part, where the bed of the truck would go.
This is the KRUZR K180 Overland Trailer, which Kingstar brought on display at the recent Tampa RV Super Show. Based on several accounts from media people who’ve seen and toured it, it’s very much like a KRUZR camper with an additional, self-contained room, in a travel trailer form factor.
Built on a 21-foot (6.4-meter) dual-axle trailer with beefy tires and Kingstar patented independent suspension, the K180 actually starts like a KRUZR 8 in the most literal sense. In order to configure it, you have to choose one of the KRUZR 8 options, going then through the add-ons that are compatible with it.
