Black Folks Camp Too Picks up Award at Outdoor Media Summit

The Outdoor Media Summit occurred Sept. 27 – 29 at the Ridgeline Hotel in Estes Park, Colo. The three-day event brought together media, influencers, outdoor advocates and organization to offer workshops, education and keynotes addressed current trends in the outdoor space.

RV industry-related companies attending the summit included Dometic, Outdoorsy, Winnebago and Black Folks Camp Too.

Together, with Outdoor Media Summit founder Yoon Kim, Dometic created the Confluence Award. The term confluence is gaining momentum in the outdoors industry. Meaning the flowing together of two or more stream or rivers, the spirit of the award is to recognize an individual or company who is bringing people and ideas together in the outdoor space.

Sara Dover, brand manager RV for Dometic, presented the first of what will be an annual award in front of roughly 150 attendees.

“We are excited to be presenting this award to an individual who is bringing people together to focus on both stewardship for the land and equity and inclusion for the Black community in the outdoors, Earl B. Hunter Jr., President of Black Folks Camp Too – a business whose mission is to increase diversity in the outdoor industry by making it easier, more interesting and more fun for Black folks to go camping.

“Hunter has been widely recognized for his ebullient personality, hard work ethic and non-traditional approach to building relationships and we’re thrilled to be awarding him the Confluence Award from Outdoor Media Summit and Dometic,” said Dover.

Hunter shared with RV PRO, “Black Folks Camp Too is excited to win the award and we firmly believe the Unity Blaze will continue to unite the outdoors.”

According to the Black Folks Camp too website, the Unity Blaze is a symbol that forges bonds across all aspects of adventure, symbolizing the motto, “Treat everyone, everywhere equally.”
