Layout Is Top Factor in RV Buying Decisions, Swedish Study Finds

According to a report from AboutCampBtoB.com, layout is the single most important factor for consumers when deciding on which leisure vehicle to purchase, according to a new study conducted by Sweden’s Caravan and Motorhome Association (HRF).

More than 90% of respondents to the buying trends survey said that layout was the most important factor when choosing a caravan or motorhome, with price in second place with 77%, and comfort and equipment level in third with 66%.

Total weight was the fourth most important factor with 44%, moisture resistance was fifth with 39%, and design was sixth with 37%. Road safety and brand were way down the list, with just 20% of participants saying this was an important buying factor.

“It goes without saying that you buy a caravan that suits your own needs,’ said Tony Ekström, CEO of caravan manufacturer SoliferPolar.

“The work of developing good and suitable layouts is always in focus. What are the trends? What is popular? What is interesting right now? The important thing is not to compromise on the overall picture.

“There are many different requests for layouts, which creates challenges for us. Of course, we try to incorporate popular layouts into smaller caravans, but we only have a certain amount of space to work with, so something has to give.

“It’s always fun to come up with concept stuff, but there has to be a purpose to it, and it has to lead to something. Right now, we’re making what people want, and it’s still working really well. There are no sacred cows, and that’s pretty nice.”

The sleeping area was considered by those surveyed to be the most important aspect of any caravan or motorhome layout, with 80% of people saying so from all age demographics.
