With a new trailer donated by LOOK Trailers, Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County says its goal of scaling up its home construction is within reach.
LOOK Trailers, a division of Novae, donated an Element SE cargo trailer to Habitat. The new trailer will be used as a construction supply trailer, allowing Habitat to move tools and materials between job sites.
It is currently being used on its first home, Habitat’s Raise the Roof home for the Cortez family in Elkhart.
Greg Conrad, president and executive director of Habitat, said construction supply trailers are one of the most essential elements for the nonprofit to continue its work in the community.
“We are proud to partner with (LOOK Trailers), and we love what the trailer allows us to do for our mission of building more homes,” he said. “This trailer will allow us to increase capacity and build more homes.”
Headquartered in Middlebury, Indiana, LOOK customized the trailer for Habitat’s needs of carrying tools and building supplies to multiple sites by adding three ladder racks and increasing the trailer’s height and length, allowing construction staff and volunteers easier access.
“Donating the cargo trailer to Habitat is one small way that LOOK can help provide affordable homes for people in our community,” said Matt Arnold, founder of LOOK Trailers and chief innovation officer for Novae.
Since 1986, Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County has built 211 homes. In 2022, Habitat has closed on two homes and has three homes under construction, with plans to build three more in 2022.
“Our goal is to expand our impact by increasing the number of homes we build,” Conrad said. “We are building eight homes this year and will build 10 homes in 2023 plus six home repair projects.”
