MARVAC Issues Notice for Temporary Registrations
The Michigan Department of State (MDOS) is reminding dealers they must use their eServices account to issue temporary registrations (BFS-4s).
When MDOS transitioned to the new Customer and Automotive Records System (CARS), temporary registrations were no longer sold at Michigan branches, and dealers were instructed to destroy all current stock in their possession.
Law enforcement is aware that only temporary registrations issued through CARS are proper. A person issued a temporary registration and driving on the older stock is vulnerable to law enforcement action, including impoundment of the vehicle.
Licensees are responsible to ensure that their customers are driving on a properly issued temporary registration.
Details on setting up an eServices account, as well as how to issue the BFS-4s, can be found here.
